Water is a fundamental need for all of us. Our bodies are comprised of approximately 66 percent fluid, and since we lose up to three quarts of water per day, this necessary element must be replenished daily. In fact, most experts recommend that we consume eight to 10 glasses of water each day.
But when you consume water from an unfiltered tap, you also may be ingesting potentially unhealthy levels of lead, harmful parasites such as cryptosporidium and giardia, pesticides and other harmful elements that are invisible to the naked eye. In addition to posing potential health risks, unfiltered water also may taste, look and smell bad.
In an effort to provide safe water, municipalities often add chlorine, but this chemical can irritate your skin and hair and taint the taste of your water. Plus, many microbes found in tap water are resistant to chlorine, and some have been connected with gastrointestinal illnesses.
More and more consumers are recognizing the need for water filters, but many are unsure how various filters measure up. One of the best ways to evaluate a filter is to see if it has been certified by NSF International (formerly called the National Sanitation Foundation), a nonprofit, independent organization that certifies filters that meet its high standards of excellence and integrity.
Unicity offers the ClearSource Premium Countertop Unit and the ClearSource Premium Under Counter Unit water filters that are certified by NSF Standard 42, which measures aesthetic effects. This certification guarantees the removal of virtually all chlorine, odor, bad taste and color.
In addition, both units conform to NSF Standard 53, which measures health effects and certifies that these filters reduce chlorine, lead and cryptosporidium and giardia cysts.

RESEARCH BRIEF
With Titanium Silicate Ceramic Technology, the ClearSource Premium Units give you one of the most scientifically advanced methods of purifying water conveniently in your home. Here's how this effective system removes harmful elements from your drinking water:
1) Water enters into the ClearSource Premium Units through a hose and is axially dispersed throughout the unit.
2) Water is then forced through the carbon block while harmful cysts and other particles as small as two microns in size remain outside the filter.
3) Inside the premium-grade carbon filter, more than 95 percent of chlorine and 97 percent of lead are removed. The Titanium Silicate Ceramic filtration bonds permanently with lead so it cannot be leached into your drinking water.
4) Filtered water is pushed to the spout, providing you with clean, refreshing water.

FAQ's
Q: How will I know when my filter needs to be replaced?
A: You will know when your unit has reached its capacity by the taste and odor of the water. Also, the water flow may begin to diminish. This is typically about a year with these units. At the going rate of 99 cents for a quart of bottled water from a store, this $44.99 replacement cartridge can produce over $40,000 worth of delicious, purified, clear water from your very own home.
Q: Recently I read that some filters are made with lead alloy spouts that can leach lead into the water stream. Are Unicity's ClearSource units made with this?
A: No. All of Unicity's ClearSource units are made with components that have been certified as lead free by NSF.
Q: Will well water affect this unit?
A: ClearSource water filters are recommended and covered under a pro-rata warranty for municipally treated water only. Well water has a high probability of plugging the unit quickly due to the typically high volume of sedimentation in the water.
A separate Washable Prefiltration Filter is available for purchase from this site. It is specially designed for use with any kind of water system with an unusually large amount of sediment. This prefilter helps remove the sediment thus enabling your filter to work more efficiently. Inside is a fine stainless steel filter and an FDA approved 4 micron filter that is easy to clean.
